New Delhi:

Actor R Madhavan, who made his directorial debut with ‘Rocketry: The Nambi Effect’, is being criticized for saying the Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) used the Hindu calendar to launch with success of the PSLV C-25 rocket to Mars for India. March mission.

The actor made the comments while promoting his debut film which recently screened at the 75th Cannes Film Festival in May. Mr. Madhavan made the comments in Tamil which was translated by musician TM Krishna. The actor said: “Indian rockets did not have 3 engines (solid, liquid and cryogenic) which help western rockets propel themselves into Martian orbit. As India lacked them, they used information from the “Panchangam” (Hindu calendar).

According to the user who translated Madhavan’s words, “The ‘Panchangam’ has the celestial map with all the information about the different planets, the gravitational pull of the planets, the deviation of the solar flares, etc. Everything has been perfectly calculated thousands of years ago and so the launch was calculated using that information in the calendar.”

The ‘3 Idiots’ actor added, “The rocket launched and it circled Earth, the Moon and Jupiter’s Moon and ricocheted into Mars orbit.” TM Krishna shared a link to ISRO’s Mars Orbiter mission and said, “Time to consider Mars Panchangam as well!”

Many Twitter users reacted to his comments and said, “Such a disappointment to see the man, who was once a Tamil romance movie poster boy, become a WhatsApp uncle.”

While another user said, “The Mangalyan mission was an ISRO achievement and not a comedy.”

Mr. Madhavan’s film “Rocketry: The Nambi Effect” is a biographical drama based on the life of former ISRO scientist and aerospace engineer Nambi Narayanan, who was falsely accused of espionage.

The trailer for the film was recently shown at Expo 2022 Dubai where it received a positive response from the public. Commenting on his collaboration with Mr. Madhavan, Nambi Narayanan said, “I wanted someone who understood what it meant to be an engineer. Since Madhavan is an engineer himself, it made it much easier for him to tell my story.

ISRO’s Mangalyan mission was India’s first interplanetary mission. ISRO’s K Sivan said the Mangalyan mission was originally only scheduled for 6 months. India became the first country to reach Mars orbit in the first attempt in 2014.
