What’s new at Whistletop weekend?

The 20th Annual Whistlestop Weekend is back after a short hiatus last year due to Covid. This two-day festival is all about barbecuing, live music and fundraising for one of our favorite places – the Earlyworks Children’s Museum in downtown Huntsville! You’ll notice a few changes this year, so read on before you go!

What’s New at Whistlestop Weekend

The place, the date and the price!

In the past, the Whistlestop weekend was held in May, but this year’s event has moved to August. There’s also a new, lower ticket price – admission is only $ 10 per day!

Plus, the Whistlestop has moved past its previous location at the historic Huntsville depot, so they’re making the jump to a new location with a lot more space. Just follow the smell of walnut from the barbecue in the air to John Hunt Park off Airport Road. It’s the perfect year for a bigger space to spread out and not get so crowded. And parking will be a snap!

More chances to get a little taste

Also new this year, even MORE opportunities for you to sample the amazing Whistlestop Weekend BBQ! Tickets include public tastings that will take place on Friday evening and Saturday afternoon.

Whistlestop Wing Thing – On Friday, the public will decide who wins the chicken wings! The public judgment will take place on Friday evening from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., and prizes will be awarded for 1st to 3rd places.

Mayor’s Cup Competition – New this year, the public will vote for their favorite samples with a special token designated for true favorites

Public Prize – Everyone who attends WhistleStop on Saturdays between noon and 2 p.m. will have the opportunity to “put your money where your mouth is!” Most backyard kitchen teams participating in the Shadetree Contest will have Boston butt samples available to you! Vote for your favorite by placing money in the pot provided on their cooking site. The team with the most money will be announced as the winner of the People’s Choice Award during the awards show at 8:15 p.m. on the Main Stage.

Food Trucks will be on hand to make sure there is something to cook for everyone… there is even a vegan option!

Pro tip: Come early and bring your lawn chairs and bug spray to find a good place to enjoy the music.

No family entertainment area

Sadly, another change to the Whistlestop weekend this year is the absence of the Family Fun Zone. But for parents of kids who love the Earlyworks family, it’s a great date night that also supports one of their kids’ favorite places in Huntsville. All proceeds will go to STEM programs and projects at the EarlyWorks Children’s Museum. So you can eat all the barbecue you want, guilt-free!
